Your Summer TCM Diet

We've covered what to eat in winter and fall when our weather is cooler. So with the sun shining and the weather hot, let's talk about what foods will keep you balanced this summer.

First, why? In Traditional Chinese Medicine, your diet plays a significant role in your health, and the foods you eat help balance your Yin and Yang. In the summer, heat depletes your body fluids and harms your Yin, so your diet should focus on cooling, hydrating Yin foods.

Green tea is also an ideal beverage during hotter months because it helps disperse heat, calm your mind, expel toxins and remove excess heat from your body. But we're really here for the food, and our summer diet is a delicious one! Here are your summer foods to focus on while the weather is hot.

WHAT TO EAT: Apples, lemon, kiwi, melon, oranges, pears, pineapple, tangerines, cucumbers, spinach, tomatoes, yogurt, barley, green tea, mineral water, mussels

WHAT TO AVOID: Dry foods, coffee, acrid spices, ice-cold foods/beverages

I’m supposed to tell you not to eat ice cream, too, but it’s summer and I know better. So moderation, because the more you can help your body find balance, the better you’ll feel during our little window of summer sunshine!

In health and wellness,
Julie
