Acupuncture for Heart Health

So many of acupuncture’s benefits come from improved circulation—especially promoting blood flow to your organs. Since February is heart month, let’s talk specifically about what that means for your heart health.

More and more research is proving that acupuncture improves heart rate variability (HRV), which is a marker of your body’s ability to control your heart rate and rhythm. And several studies show that acupuncture can help control and lower things like chest pain or tightness, high blood pressure and stress. All of which play a key role in heart health.

But holistically, acupuncture brings your Qi—and your body—into balance, and that of course includes your heart. From the benign to more serious, acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of heart conditions, helping many patients avoid medical interventions for things like murmurs and heart palpitations. And in Traditional Chinese Medicine, pulse diagnosis can also detect mild heart conditions, which can then be treated with acupuncture to improve blood flow through the heart.

In a 2013 study, researchers found that patients who were treated with acupuncture every other day for a month experienced “significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressures.” Their conclusions was that “acupuncture should be in the hypertension treatment guidelines and widely used for blood pressure regulation.”

I’m not surprised! We know that regular acupuncture brings a long list of benefits—better sleep, lower anxiety, improved circulation, less stress, more energy and regulated emotions, just to name a few. All of those things go hand in hand with heart health.

When you’re ready to get started, we’ll build an acupuncture plan that works for you. Because from Valentine’s Day to American Heart Month, February is all about showing a lot of love for our body’s most vital organ.

In health and wellness,
Julie
